Telling an Authorship Doubter, “You’re just a snob,” is often the first line of defense against the question. Sadly for Stratfordians, though, it’s a useless defense. Of course, it’s an ad hominem attack, meaning they are simply attacking the Doubter and trying to make them feel stupid. In fact, saying “You’re just a snob” is exactly the same as saying, “You’re just stupid” if you think Shakespeare didn’t write Shakespeare.
But the bigger problem with calling someone a snob is that it does not address the issue. I have found that most often the people who use this attack actually don’t even know the real issue; they are simply throwing out a vapid statement they’ve heard before and hoping that will be the end of things because that’s all they know.
